Investors around the world are getting bullish on farmland.

BlackRock's Graham Birch is taking that literally.

Business Week reports that the 49-year old Birch has taken off to run his 2,300- acre farm.

Birch used to co-manage BlackRock's Agriculture Hedge Fund and Natural Resources Hedge Fund, so he should know the space pretty well. Now he farms milk and grains.

“I want to take a break from the city,” Birch told Bloomberg. Farming “takes up most of my time now."

Birch isn't the only one taking the trend seriously. Barton Biggs often says that everyone should own a farm "safe haven" a good distance from the city.

Jim Rogers and Marc Faber are both proponents of buying farmland, though it's not clear how much time they actually spend on them.
