Last week we highlighted the percentage of stocks in the Financials sector currently trading above their 50-day moving averages. Below we highlight the percentage of stocks in the entire S&P 500 above their 50-day's. Currently, 82% of stocks in the index are above. This is just about inline with the levels reached when the market hit new highs at the end of March. When the index hit new highs in July, however, the percentage of stocks above their 50-days was only at 59% and didn't provide the index with underlying strength. The big summer selloff ensued. It is comforting to see that the current percentage of stocks above their 50-days is confirming the market's new highs. If the pattern from late March continues, the rally could last through the end of the year.
The richest one percent of this country owns half our country's wealth, five trillion dollars. One third of that comes from hard work, two thirds comes from inheritance, interest on interest accumulating to widows and idiot sons and what I do, stock and real estate speculation. It's bullshit. You got ninety percent of the American public out there with little or no net worth. I create nothing. I own.
